How to tell if the relay should be replaced？

Take out the relay and directly connect one of the two test leads to the negative pole of the battery and the other to the positive pole of the battery. If the relay does not make a snapping sound, it may be broken.

Use a 12V test light, one end of the wire is connected to the negative pole of the battery, and the other end is connected to the big head screw of the relay of the motor positive pole. Press the ignition button. If the light does not light up, the relay is broken.

Installation method reference

  • One of the two copper columns above the relay is connected to the thick positive wire of the battery
  • The other is connected to the thick positive wire of the motor.
  • There are 2 thin wires, one is connected to the negative power line of the neutral switch
  • The other is connected to the power start switch.

    I put a new battery in my 1987 350cc Moto 4 and noticed it still cranked a little slow. But once I installed this relay, it was cranking like a much newer quad. This definitely is an aftermarket part because Yamaha no longer offers one for this old a quad, but I was happy to find this one and its performance for me is excellent.I was a direct replacement for the prior relay and did not require any changes at all. The quad is quite old, and runs great. And as long as vendors like Oceair continue to supply parts for my old quad I see no reason why she will not continue to perform well for quite some time to come.And the price was a pleasant surprise.Thank you, Oceair!
