This kit comes with all items needed to quickly get the system running. Pairing the camera and display is simple. The optional magnetic camera mount is highly desirable if your vehicle has an appropriate metal surface or if you intend to be able to quickly move between different vehicles and trailers. The magnets in the mount are very strong, so be careful removing it from a metal surface.Included is a flat mount (plastic) and a z-shaped 90° mount (metal). The flat mount is used in either setup. If the z mount is used, screws are removed from the back of the camera to replace a metal bracket there. The camera easily and firmly slides into the mount and there is a screw that locks it in the mount. The camera itself has plenty of up/down pivot to adjust to your preferred view. (one photo showing the mount only has 2 of 4 screws installed, this was because I was testing different mount locations)The only other optional part I’d recommend (but wasn’t able to test) is a second camera. Depending on camera location, this would be extremely useful. The display is large enough to reasonably see both camera views at the same time, but you can also choose one view at a time using the full screen and quickly switch between them.The live camera view is more responsive than other wireless products I’ve used. The display menus are easy to use and allow configuring various useful adjustments. I appreciated that they kept it simple to have camera active for 120 or 240 seconds at vehicle power on (or if you manually turn it on) as well as a full-time on view if desired.The included, but operationally optional, magnetic antenna mount extends the wireless range. I didn’t need this with a 4-door Jeep and a 15′ trailer.The camera battery life is quoted at 15 hours per charge. I’ve not driven that long without solar. In a simple setup it would be reasonable to just remove the camera and charge it indoors. Depending on where the trailer is stored and driven you may opt to remove the camera and secure it in the vehicle or indoors, so be prepared to remove/install the locking screw. Daytime driving with always on camera would be unlimited with solar. Likewise for 120 and 240 second use the solar should take care of all charging.I had some trouble getting antennas tightening correctly. Be careful and patient getting them installed, particularly on the display.The solar charger and camera use micro usb connections. This is an extremely common connector and certainly sufficient for the purpose, but I’d like to see USB type-C used in a future version of the product.Overall the product makes for a cost-worthy, easy, and effective setup to better manage and protect your RV or trailer property.

Six months ago, I installed an AUTO-VOX V5PRO Rear View Mirror Camera in my mother’s car. My review was detailed and included both PROS and CONS. Auto-Vox recently contacted me to write a review on their new Solar4. They have supplied the unit, but this will not sway my review. Since there are YouTube videos on how to install the solar4, I will focus more on the pros and cons of this unit.Quality:I consider Auto-Vox to be a company that produces good products. The Solar4 did not disappoint. You can tell the construction quality of the unit by just handling it. And the price is very reasonable for what you are getting.Easy installation:The ease of installing a Solar4 is its selling point. There are no wires to run to the back of the vehicle. In fact, there are no wires to run at all. The camera is powered from its own battery and the monitor is powered by a cord that plugs into the cigarette lighter. They claim it can be installed in 10 minutes. Depending on how you choose to mount the camera, it could be less than that. You will spend more time deciding where you want to install the camera and monitor than actually installing them.Added visibility:This is not designed to replace your rear-view mirror but to give you additional backward visibility. My vehicle is an FJ Cruiser. The FJ is an off-road vehicle and has very poor visibility out the back window. It becomes dangerous after you put fishing poles, etc. in the back. The Solar4 has greatly added to the safety and ease of driving. As with all rear cameras, you see a large area, but objects can be closer than they appear.Versatility:The camera can be mounted on the back of a car and then moved to the back of a trailer when it is being towed. It is ideal for an RV that has poor or no rear visibility. It comes with two mounting brackets. One for mounting on a horizonal surface (the roof) and one for a vertical surface. The brackets screw into the vehicle and the camera snaps on and off the bracket. The bracket to camera connection is very secure. And there is a screw that makes sure it cannot get knocked off or easily stollen.There is also an option to get a magnet that snaps onto the back of the camera in lieu of a bracket. The magnet is powerful, and you can easily move the camera to the back of something you are towing. You can also move the camera to point at the hitch so hooking up a trailer becomes easy. The magnet gives the most versatility but there is a concern that it could easily be stollen if left on the vehicle. So, putting the camera inside the locked vehicle when parked in an unsafe area would be wise. You can choose to only use the magnet when pulling a trailer.Note that the camera rotates up 38 degrees up and down 60 degrees. But it does not rotate left to right.Charging the Battery is one issue with the Solor4:Charging Problem:The camera has a battery that must be charged. If you just turn it on when you are backing up, the battery life should last a long time. But if, like me, you need it for added visibility, it will be on most of the time. The manual states that the battery life should last for 15 hours during the day and one half as long during the night. If it is used just for backing up, it is estimated to last 3 months. It comes with a USB cord for charging and can be charged from your computer or in the car with a USB adapter plug.Charging Solutions:A solar panel can be purchased that will continually charge the battery from the sun. I purchased one and time will tell if it keeps the battery charged in a cloudy city like Cleveland Ohio.While not advertised, there is also an option to hard wire it into your taillight. This would have it charging when the lights are on. To do this you need to buy a DC to USB converter. If you know the few limitations as I have explained, you can hopefully make a wise decision. If it fits your needs, you cannot go wrong. It is well made and priced reasonably.
RV2Cycle –
Only four stars because we had a performance issue. It’s important to note that the product was as easy to install as marketed and worked quite well on our 21 foot camper van. Ten months after installing the product it began to falter. Within a short time (hours), it became obvious the receiver was no longer going to continue operating properly – it would no longer continuously display a picture. To have a picture, it became necessary to repeatedly reset the receiver. Customer Support Rep, Kaya, helped us determine the best resolution was to send a new/replacement Receiver, at no cost to me. Switching receivers was done even more quickly than installing the full system.

I have an F-150 with full length box and crew cab and a 26 foot trailer. Video signal keeps cutting in and out with the receiving unit sitting on the dash and the extention cable for the cameras wireless antenna reaching to the middle of the trailer roof.When it does work it’s great.
