The short version: Gauge is installed and seems to be working.The long version: Manchester Propane Gauge Review1. I purchased this gauge to replace the original direct read gauge on the propane tank because I wanted to be able to read the propane level from a gauge inside the coach.2. Manchester Tank G12653 LP Gas Tank – Snap-On Dial Gauge – was the original gauge.3. Manchester Tank G12846 LP Gas Tank – Remote 90° OHM Sender – replacement gauge.4. I called Rochester Gauges of Dallas TX. They make both gauges. They could not tell me if the two gauges were interchangeable. I was told, “we will get back to you”. Two months now and I am still waiting.5. Called Nash Fuels in Nicholasville, KY. Talked to Jerry. Was told the two gauges were interchangeable. I purchased the gauge from them.6. No instruction with the new gauge however. This was a bit of a problem.7. Two back wires exited the new sending unit on the gauge.8. On my receiving unit (Level Guard – Sensa Tank RV100) Remote Panel there was supplied a two prong male terminal for the propane tank. However unlike the fresh, gray and black tank terminals there was no wiring harness provided for the propane tank. Directions from Level Guard stated this harness was supplied by the propane tank company or the vehicle manufacturer. Neither of which was true.9. After calling the Level Guard Company I was told I would have to make my own wiring harness and plug since they did not make these. Apparently no one makes them.10. When I reminded them that one side of their plug in terminal was marked LPG tank and the other side was marked LPG ground and that both wires exiting my gauge were exactly the same they really could not help me.11. After reading some comments online about this and similar problems (I know – this can be dangerous) and most people commenting said that it did not really matter which wire was used, I decided to wing it. If I got no reading at the display panel I would reverse the plug.12. I did have a rather difficult time removing the old gauge. I did not want to break it just in case I might have to reuse it.13. I actually had to devise a special tool to lever off the small plastic tabs. I was told originally that this was easy and this could be done with a screw driver, but I could not see how that was possible. You would need a very short screw driver with a 90 degree bend at the tip of the blade.14. The new gauge easily snapped right on and recorded the same fuel level that the original gauge had been recording.15. After a couple of hours of feeding wire into plastic sheathing and crawling around under the coach and feeding the wire up into the coach and under cabinets to reach the “Remote Panel”, I finally plugged in the home made “female” connector I had devised.16. The Sensa Tank Display panel recorded the same level as the gauge on the propane tank.17. I have not used enough propane yet to determine if the gauge is recording accurately.18. I will update if I find a problem in the future.19. I know some of you may be saying, “why not have your dealer install it?”20. It has been two weeks since I called my dealer. “We never did that before. But we will get back to you.”21. This is the same dealer that delivered our coach with no water in the fresh water tank, a faulty water pump, a broken and leaking gray water sewer valve, leaking skylight, TV unconnected, etc. and to top it off they never even registered our coach with the DOT and we were merrily driving around for two months with no vehicle registration.

I bought this sensor as a project to see how I can setup remote monitoring of a 500Gal LP tank. The tank is usually fully covered with snow, so knowing when is the time to order propane is an important.The sensor has a magnetically coupled actuator and a Hall sensor, calibrated in such way that resistance in ohms is the same as dial indication in %. I had some old cheap soil moisture sensors (they do nothing but measure resistance between two prongs that you stick in soil. If your soil moisture sensor is new and/or expensive this hack won’t work b/c they measure capacitance). I connected the sensor leads to the terminal of the soil moisture sensor. By waving around a magnet I confirmed that the raw resistance readings off the senor are the same as the dial. I then removed my old dial from the LP tank and realized I should have bought Manchester 5628S02537 for may application, but it’s twice expensive, so I cut off the standoffs and the dial sat nice and snug in the socket. I tightened it with some extra washers, and voila I have a remote LP level sensor now.This is all for informational purpose only – don’t mess with flammable gases if you don’t know what you’re doing. No guarantee of accuracy of the readings.

Exactly what I needed. Use a magnet to set the gauge correctly. Clips on easy and the wiring was easy to replace. Save your old wire harness to make it easy.
