I ordered this part and it has you check what Year the car is, the Make, Model, Options, all that. You expect the part that you ordered, will fit when it shows up! I looked at the boot and held it up to the one on the car before removing the one on the car. They look similar. but after i removed the old on and got the new one on, it was to small! This is a HUGE INCONVENIENCE, now I can not drive the car until this is fixed!

This split boot works very well and is holding up an operation. You need a lot of patience to put this thing on as it is very tedious and slippery because try as you may the grease finds its way to your hands and the tight assembly space makes you cry out momma!

I thought I had enough data to purchase the Dorman 03608. It has a clear package to see through. I could see and measure the inner diameter and the outer one is 1/2″ too large. I never opened the package.I will try to return or resell it to someone.

After looking at the price of new, or even used trucks, we decided to pump some money into our 1990 SR5 pickup. It’s no longer a daily driver, rather the family utility, snow and wilderness ride. We probably average less than 5000 miles per year with perhaps 25% of those miles in 4WD.When I noticed that the outer CV boots had deteriorated to the point where they offered little or no protection, I was faced with the decision of whether to pull the axels and replace the joints and boots or try the alternative of a split boot. An examination of the CVs showed no visible damage, the grease was clean, and the clicking, thumping symptoms usually associated with bad CVs was nonexistent.Originally, I was looking for the glued Dorman split boots. They had good reviews out of Europe but, at least in our size, were unavailable in the U.S.. Ultimately I decided to go ahead with this bolted variety.Installation was fairly straightforward. Remove old boot, clean as much grease as possible out of the CV, repack the CV with fresh grease and install the new boot. The entire process took me about 2 hours. I’m not a professional mechanic and in my 70s but have done CVs on my other vehicle. Your time may vary.A few tips, should you decide to go this route: Do a trial assembly of the boots beforehand to practice and insure that the small bolts can fit their holes. I found I needed to drill them out slightly and, in a couple of instances, the holes hadn’t been punched completely through.Separate the replacement of the grease from the boot installation as much as possible. The nuts and bolts are very small. Slippery hands and a greasy boot will boost your frustration levels exponentially. Start with clean hands and assemble a bit up the axel away from the joint itself. Then move into position.I’ve never liked dealing with the metal crimp clamps provided, along with grease, with the kit, so I used heavy duty zip ties. Much easier to install and seem to be working fine. We’re about 1000 miles in, with a mix of highway and 4WD driving and they seem to be holding up well. The kit provides a few extra bolts if you should lose one. You could use Locktite but, so far, It’s not been needed. I’ll be checking them regularly and should they fail prematurely or develop issues, I’ll update my review.

if you don’t have a “lift”…the first thing to do is remove the wheel….AND the brake caliper….remove the old boot…..clean the CV “shaft” off real good….after you get the NEW boot out of the package….use a “scribe” and run it through the openings on both of the “split” boot….install “push” the bolts through….get it around the shaft…DON’T try and get it in position while your getting the nuts onto the bolts, get it in a area where you can get to the bolts/nuts….tighten the bolts onto the nuts until they STOP on the shoulder of the bolts…open the grease pack….clean any old grease that is easy to clean off…. cut the package of grease ALL the way across the top of the pack….squeeze from the bottom (like a tube of toothpaste)…rotate the shaft as your squeezing the grease in….slide the new boot into position…i threw the “clamps” away and used two stainless steel “thin” hose clamps….took about a hour to do this

Perfect for raised suspension with axel angle too big, boot wears out, twars quickly, change it quickly. Worth the price every year. No need to remove the hub.
