    One Reviewer

Depending on one’s needs, this “EAST OAK Pop Up Camping Tent 6ร—6 FT with 4 Sunshades, Portable & Lightweight Screen House for Outdoor” is very much worth checking out. I wanted this for an occasional sun and bug shade/shelter for days that we plan on spending a good amount of time outdoors to eat or take a break, and this is quite nice for that.I love that each “wall” can be either a screen wall, allowing plenty of light and airflow to come through, while discouraging flying insects from aggravating us. Also the top is a very good shade against the sun beating down on our heads while also protecting us from very light rain. The ceiling is quite tall, (it does require sliding in the two included fiberglass poles to help it to give it that nice dome effect and preventing the ceiling from sagging) and gives a spacious feeling even for my 6 foot tall husband to easily stand up in.If we decide we want to block any or all of the mesh panels, that’s easy enough by rolling down the attached window shades. The zippers for the screens are smooth-running and on the inside and outside of the tent/shelter. At the middle of the ceiling inside, there’s a convenient hook that we could hang a portable light or lightweight portable fan, which is pretty fantastic. This is easy to pop open and have set up in a very short time, easily done by one person alone. I did struggle with the folding back of it, but I always have difficulty folding back any pop-up design for some reason. While it came with directions for every step, being a visual learner I ended up finding a very useful video online on YT on how to fold this back down.Because there’s no floor, I wouldn’t think about using this shelter for actual camping or using in steady rain. However, that wasn’t my intention to begin with so it’s not an issue for me. Since there’s no floor, this shelter won’t be bug-proof, but it will certainly cut down on the number of uninvited insect guests that come through, particularly of the flying variety. The ease of getting this set up was incredibly user-friendly, as it literally just pops up. The only other things to do is to insert the two poles into the top, and tie down the guy lines or use sand bags to secure the tent in place, so a big breeze or wind gust doesn’t blow it away. It comes with everything needed to do that (except for sand). There’s two elastic straps to hold the folded-down circular shelter in place to make it easier to slide it into the nice included carry/storage bag.I’m looking forward to using this and enjoying spending more time outdoors without worrying so much about insects, having some privacy if I desire, good fresh air flow even from inside, and a fair amount of sun protection thanks to the design of this shelter while still getting the benefits of being outdoors. The design and included accessories is very well thought out and thanks to its simplicity, naturally encourages more healthy outdoor time. Thanks for reading.

This review is for the 12×12 beige pop up tent with 6 sunshades, fiberglass roof poles, stakes, guy lines, and tiny bags for sand/rocks. Poles for sunshades not included.Quick review: well designed, well made, big space for packed size and weight, sandbags too small to be useful, no integrated floor means bugs get inThe provided sandbags are too small to fill with enough weight to really anchor this tent. This was a disappointing discovery given how well East Oak did with everything else. My solution has been using some canopy weight bags that can be filled with water.I have had a small pop up bug tent with floor for several years. It was highly unstable in any breeze but was perfect at keeping the bugs away. This East Oak shelter, although much larger, is more stable but always better with the guy lines in place (except with the included sandbags). I knew this East Oak 12×12 screen house did not have a floor but hoped the flaps would keep the bugs out: they do not. I really like this screen house except for the bugs getting in along the base, especially overnight. Unfortunately, East Oak did not design this screen house with an optional bugproof floor. Not taking any stars off because I knew it did not have a floor. The generous amount of headroom helps with the heat from the sun beating on the roof. A short person needs something to stand on to tighten and loosen the strap holding the poles to the ceiling. My wife is happy with that trade-off.My old pop up bug tent was annoying to put away because the carry bag was barely sized to hold the tent. East Oak made the bag for this 12×12 kit oversized: it is wonderfully easy to put everything back in the bag.The instructions say to put the ends of the ceiling poles into the bags on the walls marked with red circles. There are no red circles! Not really an issue because there are no extra bags on the walls. The material is not abrasion resistant. If setting up this tent on a rough surface, it is a very good idea to put a tarp down first. The first time I set this up, I carefully did it in my cement driveway and there are scuff marks to show for it.This 12×12 shelter feels huge inside compared to my old bug tent. The doors on opposite sides is a necessity I didn’t know I wanted but am happy to have now. Being able to control the airflow and sunlight by lowering and raising the sunshades is another big improvement. East Oak had to pick the compromise on airflow vs bug size being blocked and the mesh they picked seems like the right choice: an East Oak tent last year blocked all the bugs, but also the airflow. This mesh lets in a breeze and only the very tiniest of bugs.I had no trouble folding up this tent on my first try. Maybe because I already have a pop up bug tent, but it seemed easier to get this one to initiate the twist after folding that is the final step. This East Oak pop up sun shelter packs up much smaller and lighter, yet sets up with a lot more space, than my frame canopies. I’ll update this review if I discover any pluses or minuses worth adding.

    Digger

Lots of potential. I just noticed a few things holding me back from thinking this will last heavy usage. The main thing is the way the flaps cover the screens. They are just held on with the little twist buckle type holds. Which work fine while up. The problem I am seeing when it is time to put away. The flaps tend to walk to the sides, exposing the screens to anything on the ground. With the very fine mesh I am already seeing small snags with trial runs.I am also questioning a change in the zippers. On the side I believe is meant for the SUV add on, it uses a heavy chunky zipper. The opposite side has as smaller toothed zipper. I would have liked to see the heavy zipper on both sides. The small zippers always seem to bind up on about anything for me.The claim of this being set up in about a minute without stress is really pushing what I consider an ideal scenario on the 12×12. Yes, opening it up is fast, but for me getting it actually stood up is an adventure in any kind of wind. There is no cross bracing which tends to push walls down. I have learned that using the tent stakes is a huge help there. Get one side up. Set some stakes and work back and forth. That seems to hold enough to let me get into it with the poles. Once up and fully staked down it seems ok. In stronger wind it does flex some but seems to hold for me. It does say to not use in high winds and gives instructions on how to gauge that in the instructions. No floor, so keep that in mind for bugs and such if camping or storing things in it.
